3.8 Youth

Olivia and Evan show clear favouritism furnish Lincoln's room according to his interests. Chess, books, the gear wallpaper, the orange... Everything he likes, in one room.

Evan bought this fancy telescope for himself but Lincoln likes it too. He points it at the observatory sometimes and pretends that he's an astrophysicist, just like his papa. Making contact with aliens, discovering new planets- cool! Lincoln's too young to realise that most of what he thinks his father does is actually what the space explorers do.

Vincent expands his musical skills. His grandmother Sage would be...vaguely impressed. Maybe.

Vincent spends his last days of high school accompanying his little brother on the school bus.

"Is there anything I should know about school?" Lincoln asks curiously.

"Well...it's boring, mostly. But the other kids can be cool," Vincent gives an honest answer.

There seem to be lots of choices for friends here!

One of them is his slightly younger cousin. His glowing eyes show that, unlike Lincoln, he's a werewolf.

There's also this girl, Holly Crosby. Lincoln feels himself blush when he sees her, but ignores it.

She doesn't seem interested in talking anyways...

In fact, she doesn't seem interested in talking to anyone

Lincoln's intrigued.

He tries to mimic her aloof aura.

This does not impress Holly.

"Stop trying to be me. There's only one Holly Crosby!"

Lincoln shrinks back. Hopefully he can make friends during class.

He does make a friend, but not Holly.

Though his new friend isn't so interested in doing homework...

He'd rather play with Kipper.

Kipper is old and frail and unable to play with the young human, much to his own regret.

Vincent gets convinced into baby sitting.

"Vince, what're you wearing?" Lincoln says, confusion evident on his face.

"A suit, Link."

"But whhhhhy?" Lincoln's friend probes.

"Well I was going to go on a date, but-" she cancelled last minute, "But I'm stuck here, babysitting you two."

"Ew, cooties!" their guest makes kissy noises at Vincent.

"Yeah, gross," Lincoln agrees.

Vincent scoffs, "Girls are not gross. You're both too young to understand..."

"Well...Holly's not gross," Lincoln concedes.

"She's so mean though," his classmate replies.

"Well. Seems like you're on your way to realising we're all sims at heart and blah, blah, blah," Vincent interjects, "I'll be in my room, don't bother me unless the house is on fire or something."

***

Lincoln's friend doesn't spend the night, meaning he misses Olivia scaring the shit out of everyone on the bus the next morning. The stress of her upcoming job- wrangling a deer for a nearby animal sanctuary- eventually gets to her.

"Honey, don't leave the yard a mess like that. You're not an animal," Evan remarks sarcastically.

She glares at him.

Vincent makes a beeline for the bus, eager for his classmates to stop seeing his mother acting so wildly.

Lincoln spots his classmate next to Holly Crosby once they get to school.

"Oh great," Holly mutters. "That kid again."

"Um, Olive?" Evan has never seen Olivia scratch up their furniture before. She ignores him.

"Olive! Stop!"

She looks up at him and snarls grotesquely.

"...well, I'll be at work if you need me."

Olivia storms off to grab Kipper.

"We hunt together."

Kipper can't exactly object.

She puts him down once they're outside, fully expecting him to sprint at the same speed as she does.

She has the presence of mind to bring an umbrella, at least...?

By the time they come back, Kipper needs a bath. Olivia only gets halfway done before Kipper escapes her, and her crazy ideas, and shakes soapy water all over the kitchen.

He's pretty proud of himself.

Lincoln suddenly has an idea!

Yes, children can invent and no, they don't need any kind of safety gear.

None at all!

Somehow, he makes a perfectly functional and shiny Newton's Cradle.

Vincent's pretty talented himself. Evan often finds his younger brother at the sculpting station, somehow bringing lions, giraffes, and gargoyles out of blocks of clay.

Vincent's never satisfied, though. There's always some tiny imperfection that drives him crazy and makes him scrap the entire work.

"Dad, I have a favour to ask," Vincent asks one morning, too frustrated with his sculpture to continue.

"What kind of favour?"

Somehow, Evan didn't expect the favour to be driving.

Man it's going to be a long day...

After a few frustrating hours, Evan and Vincent return home. Evan decides to unwind with a game of chess.

"Now, consider your next move carefully-"

"Check."

Evan squints at his chess pieces. "I better keep my eye on you."

Lincoln grins.

Olivia isn't comfortable with Lincoln digging for scrap, being a fragile, weak child after all, so she has to get it herself.

But she gets time for her own hobbies as well.

She expands her garden to the backyard as well.

Eventually, the time for Vincent's birthday rolls around.

Food is set up...

And the fateful moment arrives.

"Anything you want to wish for, Vince?"

He considers it...

And wishes for a nice studio to make his art.

Holly Crosby came, but she still refuses to acknowledge Lincoln's existence.

Also in attendance: Tammi Duende! She's the only blue-haired sim in town (besides her father Andy) so she stands out.

"Hey, get out of my way! I'm missing everything!" she pushes Lincoln's cousin out of the way.

Holly shoots Lincoln a very skeptical look. A toy, really? So childish.

Tammi cuts through the queue before long, demanding cake.

The glares of the other children temporarily embarrass her enough to go to the back of the line.

Stephanie, in full wolf form, sits down next to her nephew with a slice of cake.

"It's not the full moon, why are you transformed?"

Stephanie grunts, "Hmph. Kids. Kids are why I'm stressed!" Their house is still insanely crowded. Instead of moving out, for some reason Noelle and Stephanie stayed in their parents' homes to have their children. It's not possible to walk two steps without stumbling into some play fight, a stressed wolfy kid clawing up the furniture, so some sort of mess.

Lincoln shrinks back, hoping his aunt won't, like, scratch his face off or something.

Olivia watches her father wolf down (haha...ha...) cake with a bemused expression.

"All that talk about me restraining myself growing up and look at you now," she tuts.

"Whatever. I'm hungry. Frosting's good. Nice party," he grunts.

----------
AN: Vincent's an adult, he should be moved out soon. His final trait is disciplined.

I don't understand why the Nocturnes are all still living together, there is nowhere near enough space for all of them.
