Yup, a normal morning for the Silverlys.
Olivia sees Vincent off to the school bus.
She forces herself to shift back to her human form when goes out animal-searching. She doesn't fully trust herself not to hurt smaller animals in her other form.
After some bird watching, Olivia finds herself cutting through the graveyard. Walking here alone, on a chilly, rainy autumn day gives it an eerie atmosphere.
She spots a seed next to a grave.
She looks around...
Then pockets it.
Crap, I forgot to replace the front door! It's still badly burned from the meteor impact.
Evan declines the work car-pool in favour of windcarving his way around town. It's almost as fast, making Evan thankful for the invisible forcefield it generates. The wind hitting his unprotected body at those speeds would hurt, to put it mildly.
It takes some coaxing, but he finally gets a drink from their synthesiser.
"What is that?" Vincent whispers to Olivia, "Is it poison?"
Evan smiles wryly, "So eager to see me go?"
"Why is dad so weird?"
Olivia laughs, "He's just really into fancy tech. Think of him like...those people you see in Star Trek."
"But our replicators suck! I tried to get toast and it gave me green slime!" Vincent gestures towards the food synthesiser.
Vincent goes to bed, proclaiming himself to be a "big boy" who doesn't need bedtime stories anymore.
"He is growing up really fast," Olivia remarks to Evan, "He's almost in high school, now..."
"It feels like yesterday you asked me to move in... time really flies," she sighs nostalgically.
"It sure does..." Evan gazes at her lovingly. "I'm so happy you've stuck by me, all this time."
Olivia smiles sweetly, "Of course! I love you."
"You've always been like...a beacon of light for me. Something to look towards when the waters get choppy."
Olivia giggles, "You're so poetic."
Though it's not in front of a sunset like Evan envisioned, the moment is too perfect to pass up.
"Olivia... you've always been here for me. Loved me even when my life has been hard, been a wonderful mother to Vincent. I love you, and want to spend the rest of my life with you." He pauses to bring out the ring, "Will you marry me?"
Overcome with emotion, all Olivia can do is tearfully nod as Evan puts the ring onto her finger.
"I can't wait for our wedding," Evan breathes out happily. Olivia nods vigorously, laughing in joy.
They both have very good dreams that night.
Olivia breaks the news to Vincent. He's happy for his defacto parents, though confused. Haven't they been married this entire time?
He asks Olivia to play catch with him outside, segueing into new topics and activities quickly as children do.
Olivia throws the ball a bit too hard.
"Vince!"
He catches it with an "oomph" sound. He tries to throw just as hard, but his small arms make it difficult.
Olivia makes a show out of fumbling to catch it.
"Mooom, I know you're faking," Vincent complains.
"Nuh-uh, you're just so strooong!"
Vincent giggles. His mom is so silly!
As the sun rises over the horizon, Olivia feels bile rising in her throat. Was it something she ate?
Vincent watches in alarm as Olivia drops the baseball and sprints inside the house.
After she finishes retching, she hears Vincent timidly knocking on the door.
"Are you ok?"
"I'm alright, Vince. Sorry for scaring you."
Not feeling well, Olivia decides to stay home. It's just Evan and Vincent today. He takes his brother to the fall festival, something he wishes he could have done with his own parents.
Vincent's excited when Evan agrees to enter the pie-eating contest with him.
Vincent puts away several pies before looking over at Evan.
"Dad? Are you ok?"
"My stomach's too full," Evan wheezes from inside his second pie, "You win!"
Vincent wins a pie, but not before throwing up. He ate way too fast!
After making sure he's ok, Evan takes Vincent to get his face painted. It's shaping up to be a good spooky day!
Olivia feels better after some bed rest, and decides to pay a visit to her family.
"We're getting married!" she tells her brother, "We haven't set a date for the wedding yet, but keep a look out."
"Congrats, sis! Will you tie the knot after the baby?"
Olivia strokes her abdomen. Of course her brother could smell it on her too. "I think so. But I haven't told Evan yet. I only found out I'm pregnant this morning, myself."
"You should have a bachelorette party, you know, before being pregnant gets too uncomfortable."
Olivia couldn't agree more! She throws a party that very evening.
I'm not sure who the Elvis impersonator here is, but I like his style :D
Olivia invites her family. She has no interest in most of the debauchery a bachelorette party normally entails, and now that she knows she's pregnant she's laying off alcohol as well. Nothing too wild should be happening.
It doesn't stop her from buying a nectar bottle and shaking it up.
"Olivia," Nicole says in a warning tone.
"You better not-"
Haha! She sprays her mother in the face with fizzy nectar.
"Well, I was going to say congratulations, but now all I can say is watch out for payback," her mother says jokingly, wringing her wet hands and getting droplets of nectar everywhere.
Someone hands her a bottle.
"Alcohol?" Olivia frowns.
"Nah, this is grape juice. But it is very fizzy," Nicole says, her smile wide and teasing.
Olivia laughs and laps up the grape juice.
She moves the party upstairs.
"Mind if I join in?" a scantily clad "police officer" saunters over.
Olivia shrugs, "Sure, if you're any good at pool..."
The stripper pauses, frowns. "So you didn't order someone to lock you up?"
Olivia guffaws. "Who hired this guy?"
Some of the guests look away uneasily...
Olivia grins. "Then you two get to enjoy his services."
The stripper grins widely. "I hear you two have been naughty..."
***
After getting sprayed with grape juice a third time, one of the guests offers Olivia a change of clothes. She greatly takes it.
"Hey, Elvis, come and take some funny pictures with me," she commands.
The effects of nectar get to her family all too quickly. As she takes photos with the Elvis Wanna-be, her mother and father get into a rowdy playfight.
"These turned out great!"
She decides to end the night with some karaoke. Her brother is the only one not passed out, transformed, or completely hammered, so he gets the honour of a duet with Olivia.
"'I want it that way'? Seriously?" Olivia doubts her brother's music selection.
"Oh come on, it's the perfect karaoke song!"
Olivia really gets into singing.
"Iiiiiiiiii want it thaaaaaat way," she sings passionately into the microphone.
"TELL ME WHY!" Isaac pipes up behind her.
All in all, it's a fun night.
